Department of Labor Employment & Training Administration
THE CHALLENGE
The Depart of Labor Employment and Training Administration (DoL ETA) has a large informational website available to the public. It provides information on programs and services for adults and youth, dislocated workers, workforce development professionals and employers. Due to the wealth of information at this site, it is imperative that the website be organized well and navigated easily. A recent usability study by the University of Maryland concluded that the website needed to be improved. We were tasked to review the results of the usability study, redesign the website, and recommend & implement a COTS based portal.
THE SOLUTION
I worked with DoL ETA's web administration & development team, supporting their redesign and web portal implementation. I designed and developed a new site architecture and GUI to manage the 60,000 plus page website. I performed Content Inventory and Analysis. Evaluated usability and current business processes, re-engineering those processes to better meet the needs of end users with compliance of Section 508. We reedesigned DOL ETA’s site to establish cohesiveness by bringing the sub domains that makes up DOL ETA under one specific design platform. To create one look, while following many of the design elements of the Department of Labor web site, enabling the users to determine visually that DOL ETA falls under the services of the Department of Labor.
In addition to the redesign efforts, I also defined the technical architecture for Autonomy portal implementation. I participated in the defining the scope of project, working with the various stackholders to discuss, plan, and organize the integration of current and future web projects.
